Step 1: Surface Preparation – Build a Stable Base

• Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and level. Remove dirt, oil, debris, or loose materials.

• Check for flatness using a long straightedge; correct dips or uneven spots with a self-leveling underlayment.

• Apply a waterproofing membrane in wet or exposed areas, such as pool surrounds.

Step 2: Dry Layout – Plan and Blend

• Dry-lay several sets to assess color variation and natural veining.

• Mix tiles from different boxes to achieve a balanced, organic appearance.

• Snap chalk lines to guide a symmetrical French Pattern layout.

Step 3: Adhesive Application – Secure Setting

Recommended Mortars:

• White polymer-modified thin-set (ANSI A118.4/A118.15)

Instructions:

• Spread mortar with a 1/2″ square-notched trowel for even coverage.

• Back-butter each tile if needed to ensure full contact and prevent voids.

• Set tiles firmly, following the chalk guide, and press evenly for a flat plane.

Step 4: Cutting & Fitting – Precise Edges

• Use a wet saw with a continuous-rim diamond blade designed for marble or travertine.

• Dry-fit cut pieces and smooth edges with a polishing stone or sanding pad for a seamless finish.

Step 5: Setting Tiles – Maintain Flatness

• Use spacers to keep grout joints consistent (recommended 1/16″–1/8″).

• Lightly tap tiles with a rubber mallet for proper seating.

• Immediately remove any excess mortar from the surface to avoid staining or haze.

Step 6: Grouting & Sealing – Protect the Stone

• Allow mortar to cure for at least 24 hours before grouting.

• Use non-sanded grout for joints ≤1/8″ to avoid scratching the textured surface.

• Clean excess grout promptly with a damp sponge.

• After 72 hours, apply a penetrating sealer suitable for marble to protect against moisture and staining.

Maintenance Tips

• Clean only with pH-neutral, stone-safe products; avoid acids or harsh chemicals.

• Wipe up spills promptly, especially outdoors where mineral deposits can accumulate.

• Reapply sealer periodically, depending on exposure and foot traffic.
