Installation Guide – Limestone Chair Rail Trim (2″x12″ Honed)
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Ensure the wall is clean, dry, flat, and structurally sound.
Mark a level horizontal line to guide the chair rail placement.
Complete any lower wall or field tile installations before adding the chair rail trim.
Step 2: Dry Layout – Plan & Inspect
Lay out the trim pieces along the guideline to check veining and color consistency.
Use a wet saw with a diamond blade to make straight or mitered cuts as required.
Confirm precise fit around corners, edges, and fixtures before installation.
Step 3: Adhesive Application – Setting the Trim
Recommended Thin-Set Mortars:
Instructions:
Apply thin-set mortar to the back of each trim piece using a margin trowel.
Back-butter each piece to ensure full contact.
Press the trim firmly along the guideline and use painter’s tape to hold in place while the mortar cures (minimum 24 hours).
Step 4: Grouting – Finish the Joints
Use unsanded grout to prevent scratching the honed surface.
Fill joints between trim pieces and wipe away excess immediately with a damp sponge.
Remove any grout haze after 30–45 minutes using a soft cloth.
Step 5: Sealing – Protect the Stone
Once the grout has cured (typically 72 hours), apply a penetrating sealer suitable for honed limestone.
Reapply as needed, particularly in wet areas or high-traffic zones.
