Trillium Polished Marble Mosaic Tile Installation Guide – Step by Step
Step 1: Surface Preparation – Lay a Solid Foundation
Start with a clean, dry, and debris-free surface. Ensure the substrate is level, firm, and free of cracks to support the Trillium mosaic’s intricate pattern. For wet areas such as showers or backsplashes, apply a high-quality waterproofing membrane. Remove any trims, outlet covers, or obstructions, and use a leveling compound to smooth dips or uneven areas.
Step 2: Layout Planning – Align the Design
Find the center of your installation space for balanced symmetry. Dry-lay several sheets to preview the combination of Dolomite, Milas White, and Iceberg tones. Adjust placement to avoid small edge cuts or visual interruptions. Use 1.5–3 mm spacers to maintain consistent grout lines and smooth transitions between sheets.
Step 3: Adhesive Application – Select Marble-Safe Thin-Set
Recommended Thin-Sets:
Mapei White UltraFlex
Laticrete 254 Platinum
Ardex X5 White
Instructions:
Use a white, non-staining thin-set suitable for natural stone.
Mix small batches for 30–40 minutes of usability.
Apply a 1/4″ layer using a notched trowel, then comb at 45° for even coverage.
Back-butter each sheet to ensure full adhesion and minimize lippage.
Work in small sections to prevent the mortar from drying too quickly.
Step 4: Cutting & Fitting – Maintain Precision
Use a wet saw with a fine diamond blade to cut Dolomite, Milas White, and Iceberg marble without chipping.
Mark and measure cuts carefully for tight, clean edges.
Smooth sharp edges with a stone file or rubbing stone.
Dry-fit pieces before final placement to ensure alignment within the mosaic pattern.
Step 5: Setting Tiles – Ensure Level Installation
Begin from the center and work outward for visual balance.
Press mesh-backed sheets firmly into the adhesive, following the Trillium pattern.
Use spacers to maintain uniform grout joints.
Lightly tap tiles with a rubber mallet to remove air pockets and achieve a level surface.
Immediately wipe away excess thin-set to protect the polished finish.
Allow adhesive to cure for 24 hours before grouting.
Step 6: Grouting & Sealing – Protect the Finish
Use non-sanded grout to avoid scratching polished marble surfaces.
Apply grout diagonally with a rubber float, filling joints evenly.
Remove excess grout promptly with a damp sponge.
Buff off haze after 15–20 minutes using a soft microfiber cloth.
Let grout cure 72 hours, then apply a penetrating, marble-safe sealer to protect against moisture, stains, and etching.
Maintenance Tips – Keep Marble Pristine
Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; avoid acidic or abrasive products.
Reseal periodically depending on traffic and exposure.
Wipe spills immediately, particularly wine, citrus, or oils.
Use felt pads under furniture near installed areas to prevent scratching.
Shipping & Packaging
Each 9.6″ x 9.6″ mosaic sheet comes mesh-backed and individually packaged for secure transport. Sheets are cushioned to protect the geometric layout.
Important Note
