Step 1: Layout & Planning
Begin with a dry layout to assess color and texture variations.
Arrange pavers to balance tones and patterns for a cohesive look.
Use running bond, grid, or ashlar patterns according to your design plan.
Step 2: Placement
Set each paver gently on the prepared bedding layer.
Ensure uniform joint spacing of 1/8″–1/4″.
Tap lightly with a rubber mallet to level and seat the paver.
Use spacers as needed for consistent alignment.
Step 3: Cutting & Adjustments
Cut pavers with a wet saw equipped with a diamond blade rated for travertine.
Smooth exposed edges to maintain the soft, tumbled finish.
Step 4: Joint Treatment
Fill joints with polymeric sand or a travertine-compatible joint filler.
Sweep away excess and compact gently.
Lightly mist polymeric sand to activate bonding if applicable.
Step 5: Sealing & Maintenance
Apply a breathable, penetrating sealer designed for travertine.
Avoid acidic cleaners; use pH-neutral products only.
Reapply sealer annually or as recommended for outdoor use.
Disclaimer
Travertine is a natural stone with inherent variations in color, veining, and porosity. Always perform a dry layout before installation. Consult professionals for site-specific guidance and test all sealers and joint fillers on a small area first.
