Installation Guide – Grand Canyon Tumbled 6″x12″ Travertine Paver
Important Note:
This guide covers only the paver installation phase. Sub-base and bedding preparation should be completed by qualified professionals prior to laying the pavers.
Step 1: Dry Layout & Planning
Unpack several boxes to blend natural color and vein variations as well as tumbled edge differences.
Choose a suitable layout for 6″x12″ pavers: herringbone, basketweave, or running bond.
Use chalk lines or a laser level to mark straight reference lines for proper alignment.
Step 2: Paver Placement
Position each paver carefully on the prepared bedding layer following your layout.
Maintain consistent joints of 1/8″–1/4″.
Tap gently with a rubber mallet to ensure full contact and a level surface.
Check edges frequently to prevent lippage, adjusting the bedding as needed.
Step 3: Cutting & Edge Finishing
Use a wet saw with a travertine-rated diamond blade for precise cuts.
Support small pieces during cutting to avoid chipping.
Smooth exposed cut edges with a rubbing stone to blend seamlessly with the tumbled finish.
Step 4: Joint Filling
Fill joints with polymeric sand or a travertine-compatible joint filler.
Compact the surface gently and sweep away excess material.
If using polymeric sand, lightly mist to activate according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 5: Sealing & Maintenance
Once installation is complete and dry, apply a breathable, penetrating sealer suitable for exterior travertine.
Re-seal every 1–2 years depending on climate and traffic.
Clean only with pH-neutral stone cleaners; avoid acidic or abrasive products.
Disclaimer
Travertine is a natural stone; variations in color, veining, and surface pits are inherent features, not defects. Always dry-lay and inspect materials before installation. Professional installation is recommended for optimal long-term results.
