Installation Guide – Romano 6″x12″ Tumbled Travertine Paver
Important Note
This guide covers only the surface installation of pavers. Sub-base and bedding preparation must be completed in advance by qualified professionals.
Step 1: Dry Layout & Planning
Dry-lay the pavers to evaluate natural color shifts, veining, and tumbled edge variations.
Select a pattern (running bond, herringbone, basketweave, etc.) that balances tones and minimizes cuts.
Establish reference lines using chalk or a laser level to keep courses straight and consistent.
Step 2: Paver Placement
Position each 6″x12″ paver carefully onto the prepared bedding layer.
Keep joints uniform at 1/8″–1/4″ wide to accommodate filler material.
Tap gently with a rubber mallet to seat pavers evenly and ensure proper alignment.
Step 3: Cutting & Edge Finishing
Use a wet saw with a diamond blade suitable for travertine for clean, accurate cuts.
Secure smaller pavers during cutting to avoid chipping or breakage.
Smooth exposed cut edges with a rubbing stone to blend seamlessly with the tumbled finish.
Step 4: Joint Filling
Fill joints with polymeric sand or a travertine-compatible filler.
Compact lightly, then sweep away any remaining material.
If using polymeric sand, mist gently with water to activate bonding agents, following manufacturer guidelines.
Step 5: Sealing & Maintenance
Once the installation is completely dry, apply a breathable, penetrating sealer made for exterior travertine.
Reseal every 1–2 years depending on use and exposure.
Clean only with pH-neutral stone cleaners; avoid acidic or abrasive products to preserve the stone’s integrity.
