Installation Guide – Romano Blend French Pattern Tumbled Travertine Pavers

Step 1: Prepare the Base – Level and Stable Foundation
Excavate the installation area to the proper depth for a sand or mortar base. Compact the soil thoroughly, then lay a 2–4″ layer of crushed stone or gravel. Ensure the surface has proper slope (1/4″ per foot) for drainage in outdoor applications. Add a layer of sand or mortar and screed it level for a smooth, stable foundation.

Step 2: Dry Layout – Plan Your Pattern
Dry-lay a few pavers to preview the French Pattern arrangement. Mix pieces from multiple crates to balance color and texture variation. Mark centerlines or reference points to maintain symmetry throughout the installation.

Step 3: Set the Pavers – Sand or Mortar Method

• Sand-set installation: Place pavers directly onto the screeded sand layer, gently tapping into position with a rubber mallet.

• Mortar installation: Spread a layer of flexible adhesive or thin-set mortar, back-butter each paver, and press firmly for full contact.
  Use a long level to ensure all pavers are flat and even.

Step 4: Maintain Joint Spacing – Natural Look
Leave 1/8″–1/4″ spacing between tumbled edges to preserve the rustic aesthetic. Adjust spacing with spacers or by hand as needed.

Step 5: Fill Joints – Stability and Finish
Fill joints with sand, polymeric sand, or non-sanded grout, depending on your installation method. Sweep away excess material before it sets to maintain a clean surface.

Step 6: Sealing – Protect and Enhance Color
Apply a penetrating stone sealer to protect against stains and enhance the natural color. Reapply periodically, especially in high-traffic or outdoor areas exposed to moisture and sunlight.

Maintenance Tips

• Sweep or hose down regularly to remove dirt and debris.

• Wipe spills promptly to prevent staining.

• Use only pH-neutral stone cleaners; avoid acidic or abrasive products.
