Installation Guide – Ivory 12″x24″ Tumbled Travertine Paver
Material Overview
Premium natural travertine paver with a tumbled finish, ideal for horizontal outdoor applications such as patios, pool decks, walkways, courtyards, and low-traffic driveways. Can be installed via dry-set (recommended for patios and pool areas) or wet-set methods (for concrete slabs or vehicular areas).
Step 1: Surface Preparation (Dry-Set Method)
Excavate the installation area to a depth of 6″–8″, adjusted for climate and load requirements.
Lay 4″–6″ of compacted crushed gravel or road base, compacting in layers with a plate compactor.
Spread 1″ of bedding sand and screed evenly for a level surface.
Step 2: Dry Laying the Pavers
Arrange the pavers in your chosen pattern (e.g., running bond, French pattern, stack bond).
Maintain consistent joint spacing (typically 1/8″–1/4″).
No grout is required; fill joints with polymeric or regular sand to stabilize.
Step 3: Cutting
Use a wet saw or angle grinder with a diamond blade suitable for natural stone.
Always cut outdoors and wear protective eyewear and a dust mask.
Step 4: Joint Stabilization
Sweep polymeric sand into all joints to lock pavers in place.
Compact the surface and apply a second layer of sand if needed.
Lightly mist with water to activate polymeric sand, letting it harden.
Alternative: Wet-Set Installation
Apply mortar on a concrete slab using a 1/2″ notched trowel.
Back-butter each travertine paver for full adhesion.
Maintain minimal spacing and clean off excess mortar immediately.
Sealing & Maintenance
Seal with a penetrating, breathable sealer designed for travertine. Avoid film-forming sealers.
Reapply sealer every 1–2 years for optimal performance.
Clean regularly with a pH-neutral cleaner; avoid acidic or abrasive products.
Disclaimer
Travertine is a natural stone with surface voids, tonal variations, and porous characteristics. These are inherent qualities and not defects. Always perform a trial layout before final installation and follow local building codes and climate-based guidelines.
