Bardiglio Marble 24″x24″ Honed – Installation Guide

Step 1: Surface Preparation – Build a Stable Foundation

Thoroughly clean the substrate, removing all dust, grease, or debris that could affect adhesion.
Ensure the surface is flat, dry, and structurally sound—large honed tiles require an even base to prevent lippage.
For moisture-prone areas such as bathrooms or kitchens, apply a waterproofing membrane.
Check for high or low spots with a long level or straightedge and correct with a self-leveling compound if necessary.

Step 2: Layout Planning – Precision Matters

Measure and mark the center of the installation area. Dry-lay tiles in both directions to determine the most balanced starting point.
Mix tiles from multiple boxes to achieve an even distribution of natural veining and color.
Use 1/16″ to 1/8″ grout spacing to maintain clean lines with straight-edge honed tiles.
Avoid placing small slivers of tile along edges—adjust layout for at least half-tile cuts when possible.

Step 3: Adhesive Application – Optimal Bonding

Recommended Thin-Set Mortars (White, Non-Staining):

• Mapei Ultraflex LFT White

• Laticrete 4-XLT or 254 Platinum

• Ardex X77 White

Spread adhesive evenly using a 1/2″ square-notched trowel suitable for large-format natural stone.
Back-butter each tile to ensure full contact and reduce the chance of voids or cracking.
Set each tile firmly and move slightly to collapse ridges for full adhesion.

Step 4: Cutting & Fitting – Smooth, Chip-Free Cuts

Use a wet saw with a fine diamond blade designed for marble to achieve clean edges.
Mark cuts carefully and dry-fit before installation—honed surfaces highlight imperfections more than polished finishes.
For exposed edges, gently ease the corners with a stone rubbing block to soften the look if desired.

Step 5: Tile Setting – Ensure Level Surfaces

Utilize a tile leveling system to prevent lippage across the large-format tiles.
Maintain even grout joints and alignment with spacers.
Tap tiles gently with a rubber mallet or tile beating block to ensure a flush, solid setting.
Immediately remove excess mortar from the surface using a damp sponge to prevent haze.
Allow 24 hours for curing before grouting.

Step 6: Grouting & Sealing – Protect and Finish

Choose non-sanded or finely sanded grout depending on joint width (≤ 1/8″ for non-sanded).
Apply grout diagonally with a rubber float, ensuring joints are fully filled.
Wipe excess grout promptly and buff after 15–20 minutes to remove haze without damaging the honed finish.
Once grout has cured (typically 72 hours), apply a penetrating sealer suitable for honed marble to protect against stains, moisture, and etching.

Maintenance Tips – Long-Lasting Beauty

Clean regularly using a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic or bleach-based products.
Use mats or rugs in high-traffic areas to prevent scratching.
Wipe spills immediately—especially oils, citrus, or wine—to avoid staining.
Re-seal annually or as needed depending on exposure and traffic.

Shipping & Packaging

Each 24″x24″ Bardiglio tile is individually cushioned and boxed for secure delivery. Inspect tiles upon arrival and store indoors until installation.
