Installation Guide – Calacatta Marble Tile 18″x36″ Polished

Step 1: Surface Preparation – Solid, Level Base

• Ensure the substrate is flat, with a maximum variation of 1/8″ over 10 feet.

• Use a self-leveling compound where needed for uneven areas.

• Clean the surface thoroughly to remove dust, grease, or debris.

• Apply a waterproof membrane in bathrooms or other wet locations.

Step 2: Layout Planning – Align Veining & Patterns

• Snap control lines for balanced and symmetrical tile placement.

• Dry-lay tiles to plan veining direction and pattern flow.

• Mix tiles from multiple boxes to achieve consistent natural variation.

• Recommended grout spacing: 1/16″ to 1/8″ to accentuate beveled edges.

Step 3: Mortar Application – White Thin-Set Recommended

Application Tips:

• Use a 1/2″ square-notched trowel for uniform thin-set distribution.

• Back-butter each tile to ensure full adhesion and prevent voids.

Step 4: Cutting & Fitting – Protect the Polished Surface

• Use a wet saw with a continuous-rim diamond blade rated for marble.

• Smooth any cut edges to match the polished tile surface.

• Dry-fit tiles before installation to ensure proper alignment.

Step 5: Setting Tiles – Minimize Lippage

• Employ a tile leveling system for uniform surface height.

• Apply even pressure and verify alignment with a level.

• Clean excess thin-set immediately to avoid staining polished surfaces.

• Allow mortar to cure for 24 hours before grouting.

Step 6: Grouting & Sealing – Protect Your Investment

• Pre-seal polished tiles with a penetrating marble sealer to prevent grout staining.

• Use non-sanded grout to protect the polished finish.

• Apply grout diagonally with a rubber float and clean promptly with a damp sponge.
